About FizzBeat
FizzBeat turns the classroom counting game FizzBuzz into a test of timing. A metronome clicks four times to count you in, then a number lands on every beat. If it is a multiple of the left divisor you hit LEFT, if it is a multiple of the right divisor you hit RIGHT, if it is both you hit both pads together, and if it is neither you do nothing at all. Silence is a real answer here: a press on a plain number costs a life just like a missed hit. The first phase is always the classic 3 and 5, counting from 1 to 30. After that, every 30 beats the pair changes to one of thirteen combinations such as 4 and 7 or 2 and 9, and it is never the same pair twice in a row. From phase 3 the count can jump by 2, 3 or 7, and from phase 5 it may run backwards. The tempo starts near 91 BPM and speeds up each phase until it reaches about 188. Your streak multiplies every beat up to eight times, and a phase with no mistakes doubles its clear bonus. Three lives is all you get, so it pays to read the next number before it arrives.
How to play
- Press Start or Space. A metronome clicks four times to count you in, then a new number lands on every beat. The chips above the number show the current LEFT and RIGHT divisors.
- If the number is a multiple of the LEFT divisor, hit LEFT (← , F or D, or tap the left pad). If it is a multiple of the RIGHT divisor, hit RIGHT (→ , J or K, or the right pad). If it is a multiple of both, hit both on the same beat.
- If the number is a multiple of neither, press nothing. Pressing a side the number does not want, or not finishing the right answer before the beat window closes, costs one of your 3 lives.
- Every 30 beats a new phase starts with a different divisor pair and a faster tempo, from about 91 BPM up to 188. From phase 3 the count can step by 2, 3 or 7, and from phase 5 it can count down. The run ends when your lives run out.
Strategy & tips
- Use the small preview to the right of the big number. It shows the next value as soon as the current beat arrives, so you can work out the answer one beat early.
- Treat silence as an answer. Most numbers are rests, and each correct rest scores and builds your streak just like a hit, so do not tap out of nervousness.
- Protect your streak. Every 10 clean beats raise the multiplier by one, up to ×8 at a streak of 70, while a single mistake resets it to ×1.
- Play each phase clean when you can. Clearing phase N is worth 100 × N points, and that bonus doubles if you lost no lives during the phase.
FAQ
What happens if I press both pads on every beat?
You lose lives fast. A press on a side the number does not want is judged wrong straight away, and on a plain number any press is wrong. Mashing only works on numbers that are multiples of both divisors.
How exact does my timing need to be?
Each beat has a window of up to 120 ms on either side at the start, narrowing to 90 ms at the top tempo. For a both-sides number, press both pads anywhere inside that window; they do not need to be simultaneous.
Does a challenge link replay the same numbers?
Yes. A challenge link carries the run's seed, so you get the same divisor pairs, steps, directions and tempo as your friend. Challenge runs do not change your personal best. Press P or Esc to pause (switching tabs pauses automatically). If you pause while a number's beat window is already open, that number is judged as you left it; a number whose window had not opened yet costs nothing. Either way a fresh count-in plays before play continues.
