How to play
- Every card is dealt face-up across eight columns — no hidden cards, so it is all skill.
- Build the four foundations up by suit from Ace to King to win.
- Columns build down in alternating colours; use the four free cells to park a card you need to move.
- Move a run of cards at once when you have enough free cells and empty columns to do it.
Strategy & tips
- Because nothing is hidden, plan several moves ahead before you commit — almost every deal is winnable.
- Keep free cells empty when you can; each free card doubles how big a run you can move.
- Emptying a whole column is powerful — it lets you move even longer sequences.
- Get the low cards to the foundations early, but keep a few mid cards back to shuffle runs around.
- Use undo freely to test a line; a solve in fewer moves scores higher.
FAQ
How is FreeCell different from Klondike solitaire?
Every card is face-up from the start and there is no stock pile — you win through planning, not luck. Four free cells let you temporarily hold cards while you rearrange the columns.
Can every FreeCell game be won?
Almost all deals are solvable with the right moves — that is the appeal. A tiny fraction are not, but the vast majority come down to skill.
Is it free and account-free?
Yes. FreeCell plays free in your browser with no download and no sign-up. Your best score saves locally.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. Tap a card to pick up its run and tap where to drop it, or double-tap to send a card home. It works on phones and tablets as well as desktop.
What is a free cell?
One of four single-card slots where you can park a card to get it out of the way. The more free cells and empty columns you have, the more cards you can move in one go.
