About Yahtzee
Yahtzee is the dice game that has been rattling out of that little cup since the fifties, and it condenses an evening's luck into thirteen sharp decisions. Each turn you roll five dice, hold the ones you like, and re-roll the rest up to three times, then commit the result to one of thirteen scorecard boxes — and once a box is filled it is spent, so the art is deciding which category a given roll is worth sacrificing to. Every open row shows the score you would get right now, which quietly turns each turn into an optimization: chase the upper bonus early, since three or more of each number from Ones to Sixes reaches sixty-three and hands you a free thirty-five. Keep the Chance box in reserve for a wasted roll rather than zeroing something big, and never scrap a Yahtzee or a Large Straight when a junk roll could go into Ones instead. Land a fifty-point Yahtzee and every extra five-of-a-kind after adds a hundred. It plays free in your browser on phone or desktop, best total saved, no app or sign-up.
How to play
- Roll all five dice, then tap any dice to HOLD them and re-roll the rest — up to three rolls per turn.
- When you are happy, tap a scorecard row to bank the roll into that category.
- Every unused row shows the score you would get right now, so you can pick the best one.
- Fill all 13 categories over 13 turns; score 63+ in the upper section for a +35 bonus.
Strategy & tips
- Chase the upper bonus early — banking three or more of each number from Ones to Sixes hits 63 and adds 35.
- Keep the Chance box in reserve for a wasted roll instead of zeroing a big category.
- Hold toward a Large Straight (40) or Full House (25) only when a couple of dice already fit — do not force it.
- Score a rubbish roll into Ones or Twos rather than throwing away Yahtzee, Large Straight or Four of a Kind.
- Once you have scored a 50 Yahtzee, every extra five-of-a-kind is worth a +100 bonus — hold for it if you are close.
FAQ
How do you score a Yahtzee?
Roll five dice of the same number and bank it in the Yahtzee box for 50 points. Each extra Yahtzee after that adds a +100 bonus.
How many rolls do I get per turn?
Up to three. Roll all five, hold any you like, re-roll the rest, and you can do that twice more before you must score.
What is the upper bonus?
If the six upper boxes (Ones through Sixes) add up to 63 or more, you get a +35 bonus — roughly three of each number.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. Tap dice to hold and tap a row to score. The dice and scorecard scale to fit phones and tablets.
