Click a tile next to the gap — or use arrow keys — to slide it. Order 1–15 to win.
How to play
- The board is a 4x4 grid of tiles numbered 1 to 15, with one empty space.
- Click or tap a tile next to the empty space to slide it into the gap (or use the arrow keys).
- Rearrange the tiles into counting order — 1 through 15 — with the empty space in the bottom-right corner.
- Every board is always solvable. The challenge is doing it in as few moves as possible.
Strategy & tips
- Solve the top row first, then the left column, working the puzzle down to a smaller and smaller square.
- Once only the bottom two rows remain, solve them two columns at a time.
- Set up the last two tiles of a row as a pair before rotating them into place together.
- Think a couple of slides ahead — moving one tile into place often means temporarily moving others out.
- Fewer moves means a better score, so avoid undoing progress you already made.
FAQ
What is the 15 puzzle?
A classic sliding tile puzzle: a 4x4 grid with 15 numbered tiles and one empty space. You slide tiles into the gap to sort them 1 to 15.
Is every board solvable?
Yes. Each board is generated by shuffling from a solved state with real moves, so it can always be solved.
How do I control it on mobile?
Tap any tile next to the empty space and it slides into the gap. No keyboard needed.
Does it track my best?
Yes — your fewest-moves best is saved in your browser and shown between games on the same device.
