How to play

  • A hidden eight-character equation uses digits and the signs + - * / =.
  • Type any valid equation — the left side must truly equal the right — and submit it.
  • Green means right symbol, right spot; purple means right symbol, wrong spot; grey means not in the equation.
  • Crack the equation within six guesses to win the day.

Strategy & tips

  • Open with a guess that uses several different digits and two operators to test a lot at once.
  • The equals sign is always there — once you find its column, the rest falls into place faster.
  • Remember standard math order: multiply and divide happen before add and subtract.
  • A purple digit is in the equation but somewhere else — slide it to a new column next guess.
  • Fewer guesses score higher, so use your color clues before spending another try.

FAQ

What counts as a valid guess?

Any eight-character equation where the left side genuinely equals the right, using digits and + - * / and exactly one =. Invalid math is rejected and does not cost a guess.

Does order of operations matter?

Yes. Multiplication and division are applied before addition and subtraction, and division must come out to a whole number.

Is there a new puzzle every day?

Yes. Equate is a daily puzzle — the same equation for everyone that day, generated from the date so no server is needed. Practice mode gives endless puzzles any time.

Can I share my result without spoilers?

Yes. The share card is a grid of colored squares showing how you did, with no numbers revealed — just like the daily word games.

Does my best score save?

Yes. Your best is stored in your browser, and you can submit it to the weekly leaderboard.
