Tap a cell to probe — the number is how many steps away the hidden quarry is, like hot-and-cold. Each probe also spooks it one step away, so corner it and land a 0 before your probes run out.

How to play

  • A quarry hides on one cell of the grid.
  • Tap a cell to probe: it reveals how many steps (king moves) away the quarry is.
  • Each probe also spooks the quarry one cell directly away from you — so probing near a wall pins it.
  • Land a probe on the quarry (distance 0) to catch it, within your probe budget.

Strategy & tips

  • Reveal and movement are the same action, so plan where your probe will push the quarry, not just what it tells you.
  • Probe from the open side to herd the quarry toward a wall or corner where it can’t flee.
  • Corners are traps — once pinned, the quarry has nowhere to run.
  • Read the distance number like hot-and-cold, but remember it moves after every probe.
  • Fewer probes means a better score, so set up the capture in as few moves as you can.

FAQ

How is Quarry different from minesweeper?

There is no static mine map — a single hidden target actively flees on a known rule, so you herd it rather than read neighbour counts.

Does the target always move?

Yes, it hops one cell away from each probe (but never off the board), which is how you can pin it against a wall.

Is Quarry free?

Yes — it plays free in your browser with no download or sign-up, on desktop and mobile.

Does my best save?

Yes. Your fewest-probes best is stored in your browser and persists between games on the same device.
