About Sokoban

Sokoban is the granddaddy of pushing puzzles, a warehouse brain-teaser from early-1980s Japan whose rules are almost cruelly simple: shove every crate onto a target square. You move one step at a time, you can only push a box (never pull it), you can only budge one at a time, and only when the space beyond it is clear — and from those few constraints comes a puzzle that will absolutely tie you in knots. The mistake that ends most attempts is a box pushed into a corner that is not a target, where it is stuck for good; the same trap hides along any wall with no target on that side, since a box flattened against a wall can never come off it again. The clever way to think is backwards — plan the final resting order first, because you often have to seat the back boxes before you can reach the front ones, and clear the hardest-to-reach crates while you still have room to move. Undo is there so you can test a push and back out; Restart bails you out of a deadlock. Levels are hand-crafted and verified solvable. Free, with an on-screen D-pad for mobile.

How to play

  • Move your character with the arrow keys or the on-screen D-pad.
  • Walk into a box to push it — but only if the space beyond it is clear.
  • You can only push one box at a time, and never pull. Push carefully.
  • Get every box onto a glowing target square to solve the level.

Strategy & tips

  • Never push a box into a corner (unless the corner is a target) — it gets stuck there forever.
  • Avoid pushing a box flat against a wall along a side with no target; it can no longer come off that wall.
  • Solve the boxes that are hardest to reach first, while you still have room to maneuver.
  • Plan the final resting order — sometimes you must place the back boxes before the front ones.
  • Use Undo freely to test a push, and Restart if you deadlock a box.

FAQ

Are the levels always solvable?

Yes. Every level is hand-crafted and verified solvable, so there is always a way to push all the boxes onto their targets.

Is Sokoban free?

Yes — it plays free in your browser with no download or sign-up, on desktop and mobile.

Can I undo a mistake?

Yes. There is an Undo button (and a Restart) so you can recover if you push a box into a bad spot.

How do I play on mobile?

Use the on-screen D-pad to move. Everything works by touch.
